In January 2020, the Board of Directors of Friends of Dallas CERT unanimously approved the creation of a fund to assist Dallas CERTs who experience a financial and personal loss due to an emergency situation.
Creation of this fund was based on our desire to help each other in times of crisis and emergency. This may include natural disasters such as tornadoes and floods or other such disasters like fire. Each case will be evaluated in consultation with the City of Dallas CERT Program Administrator.
There have been instances in the past where Friends of Dallas CERT have provided assistance and this action formalizes those actions into a permanent fund.
This fund will accept donations ongoing--they are welcome at any time.
These restricted funds will be administered by the Friends of Dallas CERT. They will work with the City of Dallas CERT Program Administrator to provide grants to Dallas CERTs.
If you would like to submit a grant request, contact the Board President or the Dallas CERT Program Administrator via phone or email.

The following individuals will receive a grant. We are collecting donations that will be sent to them.
Dallas CERT Instructor: In 2014, the original instructor for Dallas CERT Joe Clark, learned he had cancer. We collected donations from Dallas CERTs to assist in his medical care and other expenses. The Board issued a challenge grant of $100 which was met. We also had a challenge grant from a Dallas CERT volunteer of $500 which was also met. Donations came in from all over Dallas, North Texas and even Colorado. Joe was quite known in our area--and beyond. Overall, we collected $2,190 and presented this to Joe and his wife. In 2018, Joe lost his battle with cancer. We miss him, remember his contribution to the earlier days of our program. It was in his honor that we felt compelled to established our Assistance Program.
Dallas CERT Family: On the night of December 30, 2019, their home caught on fire and as a result they have suffered a total loss to their home and its contents. The very fortunate side of this tragedy is that the parents escaped the fire safely with nothing but the clothes on their backs and are now staying with their daughter (also a Dallas CERT volunteer). They have homeowner’s insurance but unfortunately, they were notified that the policy only covers the structure of the home, not the contents. We collected $1130 which was matched by Friends of Dallas CERT with a $500 challenge grant for a total to this family of $1,630.
